Halloween is creeping around the corner, and we’ve brewed up a fun and eco-friendly craft that will get kids (and adults!) into the spooky spirit. Turn everyday egg cartons into adorable little ghosts and give them a colorful backdrop using your favorite OOLY supplies. This Halloween craft is simple, sustainable, and filled with creative play. Whether you’re decorating for a Halloween party or making boo-tiful keepsakes, this activity is perfect for young crafters and grown-up ghouls alike.

Recycled Egg Carton
Directions:
Step 1: Cut your egg carton into ghost shapes.
Start by grabbing a clean, empty cardboard egg carton. Cut out the cone-shaped sections – these will become the bodies of your spooky little ghosts. You’ll want to cut around each one carefully so the shape stays mostly intact.
Step 2: Trim and shape your ghosts.
Give your ghosts a little character by trimming any excess cardboard around the base. You can keep them simple or add a jagged edge for a floating sheet effect.
Step 3: Paint your ghosts.
Use your white OOLY Vivid Pop! Water Based Paint Marker to color the ghost entirely. The bold, opaque white paint marker works perfectly on the egg carton’s rough surface. Let dry before moving to the next step.
Step 4: Add spooky faces.
Once dry, use the black OOLY Vivid Pop! Water Based Paint Marker to draw ghostly eyes and a mouth. Get creative—your ghosts can look scared, silly, or sneaky!
Step 5: Cut your background paper.
Grab your OOLY Chroma Blends Watercolor Paper and The Paper Works: Basics Sketchbook and cut them into fun frame shapes or rounded rectangles. For a layered look, glue the white Chroma Blends paper on top of the brown Paper Works sheet. This creates a dimensional background that makes your ghost pop!
Step 6: Decorate your backgrounds.
Use OOLY Vivid Pop! Water Based Paint Markers to create fun Halloween patterns like stripes, dots, or spooky gradients. These painted paper backdrops will make your ghosts really stand out!
Step 7: Add dimensional details.
Time for some texture! Use OOLY Dot-A-Lot Dimensional Craft Paint to add 3D effects to your backgrounds—think candy-colored polka dots, spiderwebs, or tiny pumpkins. Let dry completely before moving to the next step.
Step 8: Glue your ghost in place.
Use a glue stick to attach your ghost to the decorated background. Press firmly and let it set.
Step 9: Add accessories (optional).
Want to dress up your ghosts even more? Try adding mini hats, bows, or tiny pumpkins using paper scraps and paint. This step is where the fun really comes alive!
