Christmas ornaments are one of the most classic symbols of the holiday season. Without them, your Douglas Fir would just be a regular old plant instead of a festive Christmas tree. In addition to being a classic decoration, many families use ornaments to commemorate a moment in time, like the birth of a child, a special vacation, or different stages of childhood. Aren’t handmade ornaments a hallmark of any family Christmas tree? We love the tradition of a homemade ornament as much as we love Christmas crafts for kids, so we combined the two into a fun and festive DIY Christmas ornament craft! Using Creatibles Air Dry Clay Kit and The Ink Works Markers you can create one-of-a-kind ornaments that can be given as gifts or brought out each Christmas when you trim your tree.
Time Duration: 30 minutes
Skill Level: Intermediate
OOLY Products Needed:
Other Items Needed:
- Scissors (adult supervision required)
- String or yarn
- Cookie cutters
Directions:
Step 1: Choose 2-3 colors of the Creatibles DIY Air Dry Clay Kit, pull apart each color into two separate pieces.
Step 2: Roll out each piece into a rope about 5-6 inches long. You should have 5-6 ropes of clay.
Step 3: Gather all of the ropes and gently start twisting them together. Smooth out by rolling into one long rope, about 9-10 inches long.
Step 4: Fold this rope in half and repeat the twisting again.
Step 5: Gently squish the rope into a ball.
Step 6: Next, use a plastic rolling pin to flatten out the ball to about 1/4 inch.
Step 7: Grab all of your festive cookie cutters to create the ornament shapes. Gently press the cookie cutter into the clay carefully removing the ornament shapes.
Step 8: Next, use a straw to poke a hole at the top of the ornament to later place the string. Set aside the ornaments for 24 hours so the clay can dry.
Step 9: Once the clay and dried, it’s time to add the embellishments! Use OOLY The Ink Works Markers to add additional details and personalize the ornaments.
Step 10: Finally, affix string, yarn or ribbon and tie to a bow so you can display your beautiful ornaments.
These easy DIY Christmas ornaments are not only fun, but make adorable, thoughtful, and commemorative DIY Christmas gifts for the family. Make them for grandparents, aunts and uncles, or even teachers. But don’t forget to keep some for your own tree!
